Microsoft is planning to make its own version of its popular mobile operating system for the iPhone and iPads.
The Redmond, Wash.-based company announced Thursday that it is working on an Android app that will be available for download in the coming weeks.
The new app will let users control various apps from the Microsoft app store.
Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella called the Android app “an exciting new way to share content, get updates, and more.”
Microsoft has long worked with Google on a variety of projects, including Android and Windows Phone.
The company has also worked on a Windows Phone app called Windows, and Nadell said the two companies are working on new apps to support the two platforms.
The Microsoft-owned Android app is expected to be available soon.
